Toast Coffee + Kitchen, also written Toast Coffeehouse, serves breakfast and lunch at 650 Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station, in a farmhouse-styled dining room that opened in August 2022. The restaurant began two decades earlier a few miles north in Port Jefferson village, and its menu of omelets, stuffed French toast, pancakes, burritos, benedicts and lunch sandwiches has since spread to several other Long Island towns.
From East Main Street to Route 112
The first Toast Coffeehouse opened in 2002 in Port Jefferson village, and GreaterLongIsland reports that it operated for 20 years at 242 E. Main St. before relocating. The new address on Route 112 had previously housed Mr. P’s Southern Skillet, and LongIsland.com noted in April 2022 that the earlier tenant before that was LI Pour House.
Space was the stated reason for the move. According to the same LongIsland.com item, owner Terry Scarlatos pointed to limited seating and parking downtown, and the report said the original spot had “outgrown its roots.”
A friends-and-family soft opening took place on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, with the grand opening set for the following day. The Route 112 room seats 118 people, a figure attributed to Scarlatos in the GreaterLongIsland coverage, who described the larger floor plan as giving the restaurant more flexibility. He also said that because the Bay Shore and Patchogue restaurants were large, the original brand home “needed to spread its wings a little bit.”
An official celebration followed in September. TBR News Media reported a grand re-opening and ribbon cutting on September 9, 2022, attended by Brookhaven Town Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich and Assemblyman Steve Englebright. In the Town of Brookhaven’s notice, Kornreich called the owners “experienced restaurateurs with a strong aesthetic vision and deep operational experience.”

The owners behind the name
Terence “Terry” Scarlatos and Jennifer Scarlatos are identified by TBR News Media as the owners who opened the Port Jefferson restaurant in 2002 and later added locations in Patchogue and Bay Shore. Terry Scarlatos is a Ronkonkoma native and a graduate of St. Anthony’s High School, according to GreaterLongIsland’s 2023 report on the Long Beach expansion.
That article also describes a stretch of roughly nine years spent traveling, including time in Seattle and along the West Coast, where he worked as a cook and took inspiration from the coffeehouses he visited. The Toast concept, in other words, grew out of a coffeehouse culture that Scarlatos encountered far from Long Island before he brought it to Port Jefferson.
At the Route 112 celebration, Scarlatos said the owners were “humbled and full of gratitude for the warm welcome into our new home in Port Jefferson Station,” a statement TBR News Media printed in its coverage.
A farmhouse dining room
The Route 112 space was converted into what GreaterLongIsland called a vintage, farmhouse-themed breakfast and lunch spot, with exposed wood, half windmills, steel doors and vintage signage. Scarlatos compared the overall mood to the Smoky Mountains, per the same report.
Each Toast location carries its own theme. Port Jefferson Station is farmhouse, while the same 2023 GreaterLongIsland article lists Patchogue as steampunk and Bay Shore as vintage carnival. Long Beach was planned around a 1920s look, a nod to the age of its building.
Seating and wait management run through the restaurant’s website. The official homepage links to a waitlist page rather than a reservation system, and Long Island Press notes that takeout is also available.

What the menu holds
The menu on the official Port Jefferson Station page is broad. Eggs have several homes: an Early Riser section with Eggs Any Style, a Fruit Parfait Bowl and Organic Oatmeal; a Toast Favorites list with Benedict Arnold, Splendid Benedict, Corned Beef Hash & Eggs, Biscuits & Gravy, Shrimp & Grits, Steak & Eggs and Three Ring Circus; and omelets named Plain Jane, Huevos Migas, Delancey Street, The Dig Me and Mediterranean, alongside others.
Handhelds include the Millionaire Egg Sandwich, the Bandito Burrito, the Original Burrito and the Twin Sister Burrito. The Avocado Toast section has a Classic, an Avo BLT and a Burrata Caprese version, and the quesadilla list runs from Ranchero and Hawaiian Coast to Voodoo.
Sweet plates fill a good share of the page. Pancakes come as Classic Buttermilk, Cookie Dough, Cinnamon Bun, Apple Crumb, Banana Walnut, Blueberry Pecan and Sweet Potato with Honey Butter, among others. French toast and crepes include Brioche, BKYLN, Apple Strudel, The Krispy Nutella, a Nutella & Banana Crepe and a Berry & Brie Crepe, and the waffle choices are a Belgian with Fresh Berries, a Tennessee Chicken & Waffle and a Chicken & Waffle.
Two of those dishes were described in detail in a 2016 Dan’s Papers review of the Patchogue opening. The Splendid Benedict pairs two poached eggs on a toasted English muffin with a fried avocado fritter, hollandaise and maple bacon crumbles, and the Krispy Nutella French Toast carries a Rice Krispies coating, sugar, strawberries and Nutella.
Lunch has its own range. The official page lists wraps such as Southwest Turkey and Hampton’s Ham & Brie, burgers that include the Toast Smash Burger and a Homemade Black Bean Burger, salads from a Classic Chicken Caesar to The Supreme Greek, and a Toast Specialties group with Nashville Fried Chicken, The Boardwalk Melt, Cuban Reuben and Brooklyn Chicken. Bistro Bites adds a Grilled Cheese Trio and a Bacon & Brie Grilled Cheese.
Drinks run from a Danish Breakfast Roast to a Cortado, Shaken Espresso Maple Latte, Peanut Butter Mocha, Salted Caramel Latte, Matcha Latte and Gourmet Hot Chocolate, and the page notes that coffee is also sold by the pound. A mimosa and Bloody Mary list includes Lemon Blueberry Mimosas, Red or White Sangria and a Sriracha Shrimp & Bacon Bloody Mary.
Vegan and spicy items are labeled on the page, and a dedicated vegan breakfast and lunch grouping includes The Supreme Sammy, the Mt. Shasta Skillet, Coconut Multigrain French Toast, Very Berry Pancakes and a Vegan Kids Chicken Fingers option. A kids menu offers Silver Dollar Pancakes, French Toast and Chicken Fingers, among other items.
When the Route 112 room opened, GreaterLongIsland reported that dishes retired from the old menu came back for the 20th anniversary, including the Down Port omelet, the Domingo burrito, raspberry cheesecake pancakes and the Samoa latte. Menus change, so the official page is the place to confirm what is currently offered.
Press and recognition
Regional food writers have pointed readers to Toast for years. A 2020 Only In Your State roundup of New York brunch spots described the three-location restaurant as a foodie’s paradise and named lobster roll eggs benedict, ooey gooey French toast and breakfast burritos among its indulgent offerings.
Reader polls have also recognized the business. The Long Island Press Best of Long Island brunch page shows Toast Coffeehouse’s Bay Shore location as the 2024 winner under the heading “Long Islanders Voted Toast Coffeehouse Best Brunch!”, and lists a Toast at 242 E. Main St. in Port Jefferson, with the same website, in third place for 2014. The 2024 award went to the Bay Shore restaurant rather than the Port Jefferson Station one, though both operate under the same name and ownership.
Officials and neighbors have added their own praise. Kornreich, speaking at the ribbon cutting, called the food amazing, according to Long Island Press, and Scarlatos told the same outlet, “We look forward to many years and memories here.”

A growing Long Island group
Port Jefferson Station is one stop in a group that has widened steadily. A 2016 Dan’s Papers article covered the opening of a second location at 46 East Main Street in Patchogue, where Scarlatos said, “There’s nothing like this here.” The Bay Shore restaurant followed, with GreaterLongIsland dating it to 2018.
Long Beach became the first Nassau County site. In the 2023 report, Scarlatos described the goal of making sure “everybody feels at home,” and the Messenger’s August 2025 coverage lists Long Beach among the operating restaurants when it reported that the Station Yards location in Ronkonkoma, the fifth, had just opened. Ed McNamara, president of the Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce, told the paper, “Toast is the kind of place that makes a neighborhood feel complete.”
A different format arrived in East Setauket with The Study by Toast, at 100 S Jersey Avenue, Unit 27. LongIslandRestaurants.com described plans in October 2024 for counter ordering, a mini-bookshop, a working Steinway piano and on-site coffee roasting. Scarlatos said the concept “goes back to the original vision of Toast.” The company’s homepage currently lists a New Rochelle location as coming in 2027.
Hours, phone and ordering
The restaurant is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., based on the official location page. The phone number is (631) 331-6860 and the email address is portjefferson@toastcoffeehouse.com. Hours can change around holidays, so a call or a look at the website before heading over is the safest plan.
Online ordering and the waitlist are handled through links on toastcoffeehouse.com, and gift cards, catering and a Brunch Box and Lunch Box program are listed on the same site. The restaurant also maintains Facebook, Instagram and TikTok accounts.
